FOCUS: Tsunami doesn't deter tourism industry on popular Java beach
September 19, 2006As hundreds of hotels and restaurants knocked out by Monday's earthquake and tsunami that hit the southern coast of Java Island, hotel owners at one beach resort vowed to rise up from their misery to continue business. Sitting on a chair in his annihilated hotel's dining room, the floors of which were still covered by white mud carried by the tsunami, Adang Hadari and his wife received weeping relatives and friends who came to express sympathy.

September 19, 2006Tourism officials are making preparations for an increase in the number of Japanese visitors to England's Lake District next year with the release of a movie on the life of children's author Beatrix Potter. Potter's most famous book -- ''The Tale of Peter Rabbit'' -- is read by many Japanese and the image of Peter Rabbit is well-known across the country. The author drew on the Lake District for much of her literary inspiration.
