Golf: Wie to play in Japanese men's tour event again

U.S. teenage golf star Michelle Wie, who missed the cut by a stroke at last November's Casio World Open, will play in the top-tier Japanese men's tour event again this year, organizers said Friday. Wie will make her second appearance in the Nov. 23-26 event at Kochi Kuroshio Country Club after finishing two days of play in a tie for 68th with a 4-over 148 total last year.

Soccer: Bolton appears to have failed to acquire Ono

Bolton Wanderers have failed to acquire the services of Japan midfielder Shinji Ono from Dutch club Feyenoord, a spokesman for the English premier league indicated Thursday. Bolton manager Sam Allardyce had held talks with Ono's agent but no progress has been made, the spokesman said.

Baseball: Yakult infielder Miyamoto joins Japan WBC squad

Yakult Swallows infielder Shinya Miyamoto has joined the Japanese squad for the World Baseball Classic to fill the void left by Chicago White Sox infielder Tadahito Iguchi, the baseball commissioner's office said Thursday. Miyamoto was the captain of the bronze medal-winning national team in the 2004 Athens Olympics and can play shortstop and second base as a replacement for Iguchi who decided he will skip the WBC.
