Gymnastics: Tomita to compete in France World Cup meet
January 6, 2006Hiroyuki Tomita, who won the men's overall title at the world gymnastics championships last November, will participate in the World Cup Series international meet in France this March, the Japan Gymnastic Association said Friday. Tomita, a member of Japan's gold-medal winning men's team at the 2004 Athens Olympics, will make his first appearance this year at the March 18-19 tournament in Lyon, where a new scoring system will be adopted that allows gymnasts to earn scores above the traditional 10.0.
Baseball: Seibu acquires ex-Yankees pitcher Graman
January 6, 2006The Seibu Lions on Friday announced the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Alex Graman, who had playing time with the New York Yankees over the past two years. The 28-year-old Graman has signed a one-year contract worth 50 million yen and is scheduled to come to Japan in late January.
