Skiing: Takahashi crashes on jump, taken to hospital
January 3, 2006Japanese Nordic combined skier Daito Takahashi had to forfeit a World Cup meet on Tuesday after crashing on one of his jumps in the first half of the sprint competition. Takahashi went tumbling after his landing on the K-115 meter hill and was immediately taken to a hospital by ambulance. According to his coach, Takanori Kono, Takahashi hit his face on the fall but remained conscious.
American football: Obic thumps Hosei Univ. in Rice Bowl
January 3, 2006Corporate league team Obic Seagulls scored four touchdowns in the first half en route to a 47-17 romp over Hosei University to win its first Rice Bowl in seven years on Tuesday. Running back Takuya Furutani, who was named the most valuable player, scored five touchdowns at Tokyo Dome, featuring a pair of goal rushes in the fourth quarter and accumulated 246 yards for the most in the history of the national championship.
Athletics: Asia Univ. wins 1st Tokyo-Hakone ekiden title
January 3, 2006Asia University wiped out a deficit of almost three minutes to come from behind and capture its first overall title at the Tokyo-Hakone collegiate ekiden road relay on Tuesday. Asia, which was in sixth place after the first day, prevailed in the 217.9-kilometer round-trip race between Tokyo and the hot spring resort of Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture with a winning time of 11 hours, 9 minutes, 26 seconds.
