Female research team members to be banned from donating eggs

March 6, 2006

A science ministry panel working to set guidelines on human clone embryo research decided Monday to ban female members of research teams and their female relatives from donating eggs which are necessary for producing embryos, ministry officials said. The move came after South Korean professor Hwang Woo Suk, who fabricated papers on his research on human clone embryos, reportedly said two females among his research team donated eggs for the research. The researchers are suspected of having donated the eggs under pressure from their superiors.
