Toshiba suspected of falsifying more flow meter data for reactor
February 11, 2006Electronics maker Toshiba Corp. might have again falsified data on three coolant flow meters for a reactor at the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant operated by Tokyo Electric Power Co., in addition to one at the utility firm's Fukushima No. 1 power plant, government nuclear safety inspectors said Friday. The Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, an organization under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, said it has received a report from Toshiba that it might have made the fabrication.
Numbers of endangered dragonfly nearly triple since 2003
February 11, 2006The numbers of an endangered dragonfly known for its wings' golden crests have tripled since 2003 in one of its habitats thanks to environment-improving efforts by the city of Ube, Yamaguchi Prefecture, an academic and city officials said Saturday. There were 50 of the 4-5 centimeter dragonflies during one count made in 2005 after numbers fell to as low as 18 in 2003 at a reservoir in the city that was hit by construction work to fix the pond's bank.
