Explorers find 'lost world' of unknown species in New Guinea
February 7, 2006U.S., Indonesian and Australian explorers have found dozens of new animal species in an isolated jungle in New Guinea, including the first new bird to be found on the island in more than 60 years, a conservationist group said Tuesday. U.S.-based Conservation International said in a report that the orange-faced honeyeater was discovered during a trip in December last year to the mist-shrouded Foja Mountains of western New Guinea, in Indonesia's easternmost and least-explored province of Papua.
Saga governor declares 'pluthermal' nuclear fuel recycling safe
February 7, 2006The central government's nuclear fuel recycling plan is set to gain momentum as Saga Gov. Yasushi Furukawa announced Tuesday morning that a new power generation plan by a local utility is safe. With the announcement, the town of Genkai in the prefecture, chosen to host the reactor, is expected to soon endorse the ''pluthermal'' power generation plan, which will make it the first location to implement this method.
