Supermarket operator Uny sets up company for educational robot system

Supermarket chain operator Uny Co. announced Thursday it has established a new company to develop and sell educational robot systems for use in universities and industrial high schools. The new company, BYNAS, is capitalized at 50 million yen and based in Inazawa, Aichi Prefecture. It will start operations on Feb. 21, Uny said, adding the firm will set up a sales branch in Yokohama.

Smelter plant execs punished for polluting Guangdong River: report

Ten senior employees of a smelter plant and the company overseeing the plant have been disciplined for dumping cadmium into a river in southern China's Guangdong Province last month, a Chinese newspaper reported Thursday. Cadmium levels exceeding safety limits by as much as 10 times were detected in the Beijiang River, which runs through Shaoguan city, where the plant is located, to the provincial capital Guangzhou.
