Japan says its search whaling accords int'l rules
January 16, 2006Japan is whaling for research purposes in accordance with international rules, its top government spokesman said Monday following recent collisions in Antarctic waters between a Japanese whaling fleet and antiwhaling campaigners. But Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said he has no detailed information on the cases concerned, in which Japanese whaling vessels and protest ships of the environmental group Greenpeace were involved in several collisions off Antarctica earlier this month -- with each side blaming the other for them.
