Kyoto Univ., Sumitomo ink deal on transfer of patented technologies
January 11, 2006Kyoto University and SMBC Consulting Co., an arm of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc., said Wednesday they have signed a basic agreement on transfers of patented technologies the university holds. In a joint statement with SMBC Consulting, the university said taking advantage of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp.'s large corporate client network will ''help expedite greater use of the intellectual property rights held by Kyoto University.''
U.S. eco-author Brown sounds alarm over China's consumption growth

In his book titled ''Plan B 2.0,'' the founder and president of the Washington-based Earth Policy Institute says surges in consumption have made China the world's top consumer of all basic commodities but oil.
