Team finds bigger gap in chimpanzee, human Y chromosomes
January 3, 2006A team of international researchers has found a larger difference in the male-defining Y chromosomes of a human and a chimpanzee than previously thought. The difference in genetic information between human and chimpanzee Y chromosomes is 1.78 percent, compared with 1.23 percent as previously thought, said the team, which includes researchers from Japan's Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, known as Riken.
