Crown prince to visit Mexico by himself
January 19, 2006The Imperial Household Agency announced Thursday that Crown Prince Naruhito will visit Mexico in March, while Crown Princess Masako, who is recuperating from stress-induced illness, will not join him on the trip. The crown prince will attend the opening ceremony of the Fourth Water Forum to be held in Mexico City from March 16 and other events following it. He will stay in Mexico for about a week, according to the agency. This is his third visit to Mexico since 1992.
China says Libyan leader assured Beijing about one-China policy
January 19, 2006China said Thursday that Libyan President Muammar Qaddafi has reassured Beijing his country is sticking to its ''one-China'' policy, following remarks by Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian that he is set to visit Libya to cultivate bilateral ties. In a meeting Wednesday with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who was visiting Libya, Qaddafi said his country adheres to the policy of recognizing Beijing as the sole government of China, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.
