Chinese Internet giants pledge to self-police for porn, gambling

China's major Internet service providers and portals pledged over the weekend to police themselves for online pornography, gambling and other content, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Monday. Meeting in the southern city of Haikou over the weekend, the Internet Society of China's Internet News Service Work Committee said it would use self-regulation to stop illegal activity, Xinhua reported.

Police nab 4 linked to poultry farm operator over avian flu

Police on Monday arrested four people related to a poultry farm operator on suspicion that they failed to report a suspected avian flu infection to the Ibaraki prefectural government and obstructed its bird flu inspections last year, they said. The police suspect that Ikuo Eguchi, 58, Yoshio Maeda, 53, Takanori Nakamura, 36, all veterinarians of IKN Egg Farms Co., and IKN employee Tomohiro Nakane, 32, violated the Domestic Animal Infectious Diseases Control Law, they said.

3 arrested on suspicion of forging, selling police credential

Three people were arrested Monday on suspicion of forging a police credential and selling it through an Internet auction, police said. Those arrested were Koichi Ito 44, an executive at a Kobe-based entertainment agency, his wife Yukiko, 37, president of the agency, and Hiroe Yamana, 23, an entertainer working for the agency.
