Panel seeks measures for quake-triggered tsunamis in northeast Japan

Snowfall disrupts traffic in Tokyo, Kanto region

Snow falls on Tokyo for 1st time this season, 1 dead, 246 injured
January 22, 2006Tokyo and extensive areas of eastern Japan experienced their first snowfall this season Saturday, with one person dead, at least 246 injured and air and train services disrupted, authorities said. As of 9 p.m., 10 centimeters of snow had fallen in downtown Tokyo, 11 cm in Yokohama, 17 cm in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, and 9 cm in the city of Chiba, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
