January 10, 2006The government issued a warning against Nippon Kayaku Co. on Tuesday over drug exports to Iraq when the country was ruled by Saddam Hussein, saying the firm sent remittance to an Iraqi company without government approval. The Economy, Trade and Industry Ministry said the Tokyo-based pharmaceutical company violated the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law by transferring commissions to an Iraqi firm between 1993 and 2002 without obtaining approval from Japanese authorities.

GSDF clears snow to rescue 200 isolated people in Niigata
January 10, 2006Ground Self-Defense Force troops cleared snow Tuesday in an area between Nagano and Niigata prefectures where around 200 people in 69 households have been isolated by deep snow. In Tsunan, Niigata Prefecture, 3.94 meters of snow had piled up by Monday, topping the previous record of 3.69 meters in February 2005.
