British police hold man over failed July London bomb attacks
December 20, 2005London police have arrested a 23-year-old male suspect in connection with the July 21 failed bomb attacks on the capital's transport network, London's Metropolitan Police Anti-Terrorist Branch said Tuesday. The man from the north London area was arrested early in the morning at London's Gatwick airport as he disembarked from a flight originating in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
M6.2 quake rocks seabed near Micronesia's Yap Island
December 20, 2005A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 jolted the seabed Tuesday northeast of Yap Island in Micronesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said on its Web site. There were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage and the Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not immediately issue any warning that the quake could have generated a tsunami, the Associated Press reported.
Gov't to appeal high court ruling on state's dam plan
December 20, 2005The government will appeal a high court ruling that a state dam project in what is now the city of Higashiomi, Shiga Prefecture, is illegal, government sources said Tuesday. The sources said the government will file the appeal with the Supreme Court against the Dec. 8 Osaka High Court decision, which reversed a lower court ruling and held that the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries worked out the agricultural reservoir project in 1994 without making any geological survey of the construction site as required under the Land Improvement Law.
