February 19, 2006Seiji Maehara, the leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, on Sunday reiterated the credibility of an e-mail that the DPJ alleges was sent by Livedoor Co. founder Takafumi Horie ordering a 30 million yen payment to the younger son of the secretary general of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. The DPJ alleges Horie, in an e-mail dated Aug. 26, 2005, ordered the payment to LDP Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe's son.

Fuji Film to enter pharmaceutical market: report
February 19, 2006Fuji Photo Film Co. will expand into the pharmaceutical business as the photo film market continues to shrink, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported Sunday. The major photo film manufacturer will collaborate with Perseus Proteomics Inc., a Tokyo startup that is involved in developing new drugs. Fuji Film recently obtained a 22 percent stake in Perseus Proteomics, the business daily said.
