NEC develops gadgets to convert fluorescent lamps into power outlets
February 16, 2006NEC Corp. has developed two types of miniature gadgets that convert fluorescent lamps into effective power outlets, NEC officials said Thursday. This will pave the way for data emitters and other power-consuming electronics machines to be fixed to the ceilings in stations and shopping centers without having to conduct costly electrical wiring work, the officials said.
Ex-Livedoor head Horie's lawyer applies for his release on bail
February 16, 2006A lawyer for former Livedoor Co. President Takafumi Horie said Thursday he applied to the Tokyo District Court the same day for his client's release on bail. The 33-year-old Horie has been in custody since he was arrested on Jan. 23 with three other former executives of the company over alleged securities law violations.
DPJ member alleges Horie sent 30 mil. yen to son of LDP's Takebe
February 16, 2006Opposition lawmaker Yasuhisa Nagata claimed Thursday that former Livedoor Co. President Takafumi Horie had instructed in a company e-mail that 30 million yen be sent to the second son of senior ruling party lawmaker Tsutomu Takebe as a fee for electoral consultancy work. Takebe, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party, denied the allegations, saying no money had been sent from Livedoor to his son.
