Livedoor likely to dissolve partnership with Dynacity

Livedoor Co., which is at the center of a financial fraud investigation, said Tuesday it has launched negotiations on what to do with its capital and business tie-ups with condominium developer Dynacity Corp. This is the first time Livedoor has announced a policy of reviewing its ties with a Livedoor group company since prosecutors searched Livedoor offices on Jan. 16, signaling a shift from its earlier plan to rebuild its businesses without selling its group firms.

Toyota Motor Corp. said Tuesday it booked the biggest-ever quarterly group sales and net profit for the October-December period of 2005, amounting to 5.33 trillion yen and 397.57 billion yen, respectively, due chiefly to record global sales. The figures, compiled under U.S. accounting rules, represented jumps of 14.8 percent and 34.1 percent, respectively, over the corresponding period the previous year, said the automaker known for cars like the hybrid Prius and Camry, the best-selling car in the United States.

U.N. certifies Nippon Oil's gas project in Vietnam as CDM project

Nippon Oil Corp. said Tuesday its gas recovery and utilization project in the Rang Dong oil field off southern Vietnam has been approved by a relevant U.N. organ as a Clean Development Mechanism project to cut emissions of carbon dioxide under the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. The Rang Dong CO2 Project is the first U.N.-authorized CDM project involving gas associated with production of crude oil, said the biggest oil distributor in Japan.

Global demand for thin-screen TVs to grow 33% annually through 2010

Global demand for thin-screen televisions will grow by an average 33.7 percent annually between 2005 and 2010, a Japanese electronics industry association said Tuesday. The combined number of liquid crystal display TVs and plasma-panel TVs sold worldwide is expected to increase to some 96.38 million units in 2010 from 22.55 million units in 2005, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said.
