Tanigaki calls for 'strategic ambiguity'' on Yasukuni issue
January 11, 2006Visiting Japanese Finance Minister Sadakazu Tanigaki said Wednesday that Japan's leader should maintain a policy of ''strategic ambiguity'' about the controversial issue of visiting the war-related Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo. Speaking to reporters after his meetings with U.S. officials, Tanigaki made the comments when asked whether the Yasukuni visits should be an issue in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's presidential race for choosing a successor to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
Sharp to quadruple LCD panel output
January 11, 2006Sharp Corp. said Wednesday it will spend an additional 200 billion to quadruple the production capacity of its liquid crystal display panel factory in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture. The factory will be capable of producing 20 million LCD panels for television sets a year, starting in fiscal 2008, Sharp said. ==Kyodo
