Daihatsu to build new plant in Oita

Daihatsu Motor Co. plans to invest an estimated 40 billion yen to build a new auto assembly plant in Nakatsu, Oita Prefecture, company sources said Saturday. The plant will be built by Daihatsu Auto Body Co., a Daihatsu subsidiary, at its site. It is scheduled to start operations as early as 2008 to produce 150,000 to 200,000 minivehicles and small cars of up to 1500 cc, the sources said.

Matsushita to build world's biggest plasma panel plant

Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will invest an estimated 160 billion yen to build the world's largest plasma panel factory by production capacity in Hyogo Prefecture to meet surging demand for flat-panel televisions, company officials said Saturday. The new plant in Amagasaki, which will go on line in the summer of 2007, will eventually have an annual output capacity of 6 million panels, they said. Construction is expected to start this summer.
