Arroyo lifts emergency rule in Philippines

In a nationally televised address, Arroyo said the threat of a coup has been contained but vowed to continue cracking down on ''military adventurists'' aiming to destabilize her presidency.
Australia won't export uranium to India despite India-U.S. nuke deal
March 2, 2006Australia, one of the world's major producers and exporters of uranium, will maintain its policy of not selling it to India and other non-signatories to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said Friday. ''Our policy has been that we would only export uranium to countries that are signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,'' Downer told ABC Radio in the wake of a decision by the United States to provide India with civilian nuclear technology.
India, U.S. finalize civilian nuclear deal
March 2, 2006Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and visiting U.S. President George W. Bush jointly announced Thursday that they have finalized a landmark pact on civilian nuclear cooperation. Singh said in a joint press conference with Bush that the two sides reached a ''mutually satisfactory understanding'' following India's finalization of a plan to separate its civilian nuclear program from its military program.
