Iran warns it will end diplomacy if hauled before UNSC
January 31, 2006Iran warned Tuesday it will end diplomacy if the issue of its nuclear research and development activities is referred to the U.N. Security Council as urged by the council's five permanent members. Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, said that if the International Atomic Energy Agency refers Iran's nuclear dossier to the U.N. Security Council, it would mean ''the end of diplomacy,'' according to the official Iranian Students' News Agency.
18 Maoist rebels killed in clash with Philippine military
January 31, 2006Eighteen suspected communist rebels were killed Tuesday in a clash with Philippine government soldiers in northern Luzon Island, a military spokesman said. The army used helicopter gunships to attack the rebel hideout in Sta. Ignacia town, some 150 kilometers north of Manila in Tarlac Province, Col. Preme Monta said.
