Japan may get its 1st greenhouse gas exchange by mid-2006

January 27, 2006

Japan's first carbon dioxide credit exchange is expected to be set up by the middle of this year as a platform for the Japanese government and companies to trade carbon credits to achieve the country's goals under a global plan to cut greenhouse emissions. Netherlands-based Asia Carbon International B.V., a major global player in green projects that established Asia's first offshore carbon exchange in Singapore last year, is planning to set up the Japan carbon exchange with Japanese partners, the company's managing director Kesava Shotam told Kyodo News recently.
