SESC finds Horie OK'd accounting fraud linked to 3 investment funds

Investigators at the Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission have found that former Livedoor Co. President Takafumi Horie approved an accounting fraud scheme involving three Livedoor-controlled investment funds, investigative sources said Friday. The three funds are at the center of allegations that they were used to transfer back to the Livedoor side huge illicit gains from sales of new shares in Livedoor subsidiary ValueClick Japan Inc., now called Livedoor Marketing Co.

Olympics: Takahashi, 3 others picked for Saturday's Nordic event

Daito Takahashi, whose preparations for the Turin Olympics have been hampered by a lower back injury, on Friday made the list of four Japanese skiers for Saturday's Nordic combined individual event. Yosuke Hatakeyama, Norihito Kobayashi and Takashi Kitamura joined Takahashi in the lineup of Japanese competitors at the competition featuring two normal-hill jumps and a 15-kilometer cross country race.

Olympics: Veteran jumper Harada scrapes into normal hill event

Veteran ski jumper Masahiko Harada grabbed Japan's fourth and last spot Friday for the individual normal hill event with a series of impressive jumps in a practice session. Harada, a member of Japan's gold medal-winning team at the 1998 Nagano Olympics, had jumps of 100.5, 102 and 101.5 meters on the K-95 hill to earn his place in Saturday's qualification round at the expense of Tsuyoshi Ichinohe and teenager Kenshiro Ito.

Softbank's Son has no interest in acquiring Livedoor

Softbank Corp. President Masayoshi Son said Friday his firm now has no interest in supporting or acquiring Livedoor Co., which has been plunged into a crisis over alleged accounting fraud by its top executives. ''Softbank sees no direct benefit'' from acquiring any part of Livedoor, Son told a news conference.
